Good news for hospitality industry - Best Insurance(09-Nov-2010)

Here comes some good news after all the rhetoric about job losses, doom and gloom.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is creating over 3,000 new jobs across the UK as it plans to open 37 hotels over the next few years. The group operates under several brands such as InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo.

The opening will be for a wide variety of roles including management, hotel porters, waiting and bar staff. Some of these roles are among the quickest and most flexible routes back to employment. IHG' says that all employees will be put through their highly-acclaimed training and development programmes.

This is a welcome reprieve for a market where the job losses have been mounting month on month. Kesh Thukaram, Director Best Insurance warns people not to get carried away by such promises. He added, “While we welcome new jobs being created in the UK, being realistic, a lot of this depends on other commercial realities such as availability of sites, planning permissions and not all jobs will be created immediately”. He also went on to say that people should not depend on just one employer. If anyone is looking for a job, it is best to be open minded and look for a role that meets all requirements. This is exactly where the income protection policies comes handy, as it takes the pressure off and allows one to look a job that meets their aspirations”

It should be noted that this sector is buoyant now and last week, Whitbread opened a new 60-room hotel and restaurant on Charles Avenue in Burgess Hill, creating a number of hospitality jobs in West Sussex.
