One in four councils in the UK is issuing redundancy notices to its employees.(04-Jan-2011)

One in four councils in the UK is issuing redundancy notices to its employees. So what are the options available? The latest report from some of the major newspapers shows that a large number of public sector workers are switching to teaching as a career. The number of people who signed up in the past year has almost tripled.

Nick Gibb, the Schools minister, said: "Teaching is a hugely rewarding and challenging career. The evidence from around the world shows us that the single most important factor in raising standards in schools is the quality of teachers, and that is why we are committed to attracting more great people into teaching."

It is inevitable that the change is now a fact of life and more public sector workers are actively looking to secure their income and careers. In 2008, only 8% showed any concern but as things are becoming real now, increasing number of people are taking proactive steps.

The other options in order to secure income are a good income protection or payment protection policy. Best Insurance has seen record increases in number of people buying payment protection policies which will help them in terms of their cash flow until they find a new job or a new career. Most of our customers feel that peace of mind and the comprehensive policies combined with good and right advice are the main reasons for choosing Best Insurance.

Kesh Thukaram, Director of Best Insurance stated that 2011 is a critical year for the vast majority of people employed in both private and the public sector. VAT increases, cost reductions mean that increased job losses in private and public sector is inevitable. Hence, having a good income protection policy in such unpredictable times is always advisable.
